the hallways had always been packed in the highschool. henry never liked crowded places and rather just be really early to class or really late to avoid the hallway rush. he didn't like the feeling of people bumping against him, nor did he like the jocks yelling across the hallway at each other. henry had learned the perfect art of blending in. he was barely noticed and the glasses that perched on his face and the mop of hair that was always across his forehead. yup, henry was a nobody.. the way he wanted to be. it would make it easier when he was gone. nobody knew but his family, teachers, and his one friend that henry abrams was sick. he was in stage two cancer right now, he got weekly treatments for it but nobody knew. it was just easier this way for him to just slip away... even harder when he couldn't even admit his feelings for hadley. how could he move on and accept the fact he was going to die when he loved someone so much he didn't want to leave? this wasn't going to be easy.
henry always had a rough life, nothing ever felt like it went in his favor. he had always been different, he barely had any friends and never spoke to anyone unless it was the teacher. henry didn't make friends easily in grade school and in junior high it got better when he moved to los angeles and met hadley. he had never met such an understanding person in his life. henry was just playing guitar alone in the normally empty music department when a girl with colourful dyed hair walked in. back then, hadley's hair had been all the colours of the rainbow. she came in and just sat and listened to him sing and play. when he finished and noticed she was there all she did was smile and clap. they had started talking and she even played a little tune to make him feel better. henry didn't talk much and she understood it was just better to read his body language than to ask what's really going on.
henry walked towards the music room, right now he had free period and nobody ever went into the small music room. the teacher had given henry and hadley the extra key in freshman year since the small room was never used. the much larger room was updated and high tech. all henry needed though was a guitar and hadley's beautiful voice and he would be good forever. as he turned the key he heard the rusty tumblers turning and it clicked and he slid in. he left the door unlocked, he knew hadley would be joining him shortly. when he had found out they had free period together both of them jumped for joy. he moved to the small couch and collapsed on it, his body was weak from the treatment he had received yesterday. he would sit up quickly when hadley came in though.. he didn't want her to know he was weak. he heard the door knob turn and he struggled to sit up, he finally sat up and saw the familiar half black-half blonde hair that he loved oh so much. "hadley." he said as a simple greeting, he walked over.. trying not to show his apparent pain and picked up the guitar. "did you finish writing the bridge to that song we were working on?" henry said sitting back down on the couch.

hadley had never fit in at school. people in the hallways looked at her like she was weird, but she had gotten use to it. she had always been different from everyone else around her, and she never went with the flow. people always gave her dirty looks when she walked by, but she didn't really understand why. when you grew up, you were told you could be anything that you wanted, and to be yourself. she was doing just that, and people hated on her because of it. at first when she realized she wasn't like a majority of people, she was a bit ashamed of herself. but then she noticed that she liked being different. sure, not a lot of people respected her for it, not even her own parents, but she did have the group of people who really cared about her, which was enough for her.
during freshman year hadley had moved to this town, right after her parents had disowned her. they wanted her to be perfect, and "normal." but that wasn't who hadley was, and she didn't want to live to please other people. she had moved towns to stay with her cousin anthony, who had given her a place to stay until she finished high school and could make it on her own. at first she felt like a complete burden to him and his girlfriend, but they were very welcoming. she had feared that she wouldn't make any friends when she started the new high school, but one day she had walked into the music room and heard a boy playing his music. she sat there for awhile and listened to him, and when he was finished she gave him an applause and they hit it off. they had been best friends ever since. she noticed that he had a lot going on, and she played him some of her music to make him feel better. in time she had began to read him even without him speaking.
right now hadley was at her locker, grabbing a container of cookies that she had made, and her music that she had been working on. last night she had made a batch of henry's favorite cookies, because she knew how much that they cheered him up, and she had worked on the song until one in the morning, making sure that she got everything perfect. looking at the time on her phone, she realized she was five minutes late, and she grabbed everything she needed quickly before hurrying down to the music room. she scurried into the room before talking, "sorry i am a little late. mr. hickers kept us late once again and i couldn't get out quick enough," she said before setting her stuff down. "bridge? to a song? what are you talking about?" she said, acting like she had no clue what he was talking about. she stood there for a moment to get his reply before going, "just kidding!" she giggled, before sitting down on the couch next to him. she tried not to speak of his illness when she didn't have to, because she liked for him to focus on other things. but she could just tell he wasn't feeling exactly up to par today. "i made some of your favorite cookies!," she said, handing him the container. she then picked up a guitar and strummed a few chords.

the exact word that could describe henry was a misfit. he never fit in with any crowd, he had tried making friends once. big mistake. they ended up judging him and talking behind his back. henry never wanted to feel that betrayal again so he decided to fly solo from now on. henry was totally fine being alone. he preferred to being in large groups. since that social trauma he has now developed some serious issues with socializing. in group projects henry often asked to do it on his own --even if it was twice the work. he also usually asked to present to the teacher during lunch hour to make it easier. the teachers usually hesitated to his unsocial nature but they seemed to all agree that it was just henry being henry. he always was a good kid in class, his grades were all A+'s and he strived to do his best so the teachers would cut him some slack when being antisocial.
up until he met hadley, he thought that he would be one of those people who grew old alone with maybe a cat or a dog. he had accepted his fate of being a nun --a male nun actually. when he saw her he couldn't keep his eyes off of her. most kids told hadley she was a misfit too, her hair colours, her fashion taste (which he found quite tasteful), and her crooked teeth all made her who she was. most kids didn't like these quirks about her but henry loved each and everyone of them. they were what made hadley.. hadley! when he got diagnosed in second year it was hadley who held him as he cried. nobody had ever seen henry cry but hadley, he didn't trust anyone with his secrets but her. she was the only one who ever deserved to see the real henry, the sensitive side of him of course.
henry checked his phone, it wasn't usual for her to be late. he grew worried, she was usually hear before him anyways. he stayed patient and sat on the couch strumming a few chords on the guitar. then he saw the most beautiful figure emerge from the crack of the door. he instantly perked up and he forgot how much pain he actually was in. "it's fine." henry said kindly as hadley settled in and analyzed the room. she stood and acted like he had no idea what he was talking about with the bridge. henry laughed before coughing from the pain it was causing him. he cleared his throat and resumed a small smile. it was very obvious now that he was in pain, he didn't want to focus on that right now. "you always know exactly what to say to perk me right back up." henry laughed as she giggled and she picked up a guitar. there usually were two in the room for the two of them. she took out a batch of his favourite cookies, "hadley," he said softly, "you really didn't have too. you know i love your baking." henry said reaching and taking one from the container.
she strummed a few chords as he chewed on one. after finishing it he set the container aside. "oh, my mother wants to ask you if you wanna come over for dinner tonight. she told me she was making your favourite dish tonight and told me to invite you over." henry blushed, he was a little embarrassed. if anyone loved hadley as much as henry did it was his parents. they absolutely adored her, and adore being an understatement. "if you're busy then that's fine. they'll understand, sometime's i think they love you more than me." henry laughed softly. he strummed along to hadley's strum pattern and matched it. "i figured out the chords for the opening verse too last night." henry said as he stopped strumming.

hadley had a really hard time trusting people now, ever since her parents had disowned her. as a little girl she as taught to trust them and go to them about everything, and then she grew up. and they didn't appreciate who she wanted to be, so they kicked her out of the house and pretended like she had never existed. it hurt to be thrown out like that by your own parents, your flesh and blood. the people who brought you into the earth. she also never had tons of friends who wanted to be around her. when she first moved here she thought she met one girl who she could be friends with. and then she told the girl a secret and the whole school knew the day after. ever since the two incidents she had been guarded. she never knew who to let it, and who to be friends with. the only person she knew would never do something like that to her was henry. and she was so happy she had met him.
ever since they had befriended each other, hadley didn't need anyone else in her life. all she needed was henry. he put up with all the goofy little things about her, such as her hair, crooked teeth, and her fashion sense, all which was different than everyone else that she had known. she had grown to love his voice, the way he played the guitar, and his glasses. and the fact that he was the sweetest person that she had ever met in her life. it broke her heart to see him in pain. she wanted more than anything to take the pain from him. to feel the pain instead of him. when she had found out he entered stage two, she acted like the strong one, holding him as he cried. it tore her apart to see him like that. when she had gotten home that night she had cried to her pillow all night long. all she could think about was how much she wished she was the one who was ill. she would rather take all the pain in the world than to see him suffer for even one minute. she had never told him that, but she wished that was the way it was. her taking all of his pain so that he did not have to feel it anymore.
she did feel very bad about being late, and she apologized once more before settling down. hadley had never been late before, she always liked to be on time. it bothered her when other people were late, so she didn't like to do the same thing to other people. he laughed and she could tell he was in pain, and she looked at him. of course she knew that he didn't really want to talk about it, but she couldn't allow himself to be in pain. "don't do anything that will put you into pain, okay?" she asked, before grabbing his hand gently for a moment. "i am so glad i can do that for you. i would do anything to make you happy," she said, before looking at him. "oh, it's nothing. trust me, everyone else in the house was glad i made them too. i almost put little bows on them in frosting, but i stopped myself," she said with a little laugh. everyone who ever saw her knew that most of the time she was wearing a bow on her head.
"oh! i would love to come over and eat tonight. anthony is taking lindsay out to eat tonight anyways. i think he is going to propose soon," she said, very happy that she was going over to his house later on. his mom made the best dishes, and his parents were more supportive of her then her parents had ever been. she was glad that she could please some parents, even if they weren't her own. "i love your parents," she said before adding, "but they definitely love you more," she added before sticking her tongue out at him. "i want to hear the chords! and then i will show you the lyrics i wrote last night. i really hope you like them," she said, before grabbing her bag and taking out the paper on which the lyrics were scribbled on. she was proud of what she wrote, she only wished he would love them too.

hadley had told henry about her parents and he wanted to cry with her at that moment. the hardships she had to endure only made her stronger. henry wished he could take all that pain away from her, he just wanted hadley to be happy. before he left this world, he wanted to do three things. the first being, record a CD with hadley, their voices meshed together so perfectly.. he wished he had the courage to ask her to be in a band with him. but, that would never happen. secondly, tell hadley how he really felt. he just wanted her to know, he had been in love with her for all of highschool.. he just wanted to have the weight lifted off his chest. the last thing, show hadley he could be the best boyfriend she would ever have. she deserved the best and only the best. henry knew that he could give that to her. all these things really were high hopes for henry, he had every intention of completing these things but he was running short of what he needed most.. time.
henry smiled softly before rubbing his temple, he had a big headache today. he was told not to take any painkillers because they interfered with the cancer medication. the only thing that could remotely numb the pain right now was morphine. he could only get that at the hospital though, henry would just have to deal with it. "you can read me like a book, i always try to hide it but you catch on so quickly!" henry said chuckling softly, his hair shaking into his face. her hand touched his for a moment and he felt electricity course through his veins. "just seeing you makes me happy hadley." henry said softly before removing his cold hand from beneath hers. he didn't want her to worry about his blood circulation right now. "you know i love your bows, it's okay there's always next time though." henry said gently touching the one that perched on the top of her bun. he could pick hadley out of a crowd, the way she dressed, her hair, and the massive bow. or maybe it was the way she glowed even when she down the hallway. nobody compared to hadley, she was the brightest star in his sky and even just thinking about her darling smile made him feel like a million bucks.
henry loved his parents, he was glad they were supportive of both himself and hadley's music careers. he was blessed that they took in hadley as one of their own. whenever hadley's brother wanted a night alone with his girlfriend she was always welcome to crash in henry's bed. well, not with henry of course. he would sleep on the ground or on the living room couch. most times though, they fell asleep watching movies and his parents didn't care. "you really think anthony's gonna propose this time?" henry thought about his own wedding, he hoped if he made it it'd be with the girl who sat right infront of him. he hoped one day to see hadley in a gorgeous white dress and if he did.. he hoped he'd be the one waiting at the altar for her. henry chuckled softly as hadley stuck out her tongue at him. he stuck his tongue back, "sometime's they talk about you more than me. i swear they nearly cried when you won the talent show one year." henry laughed once again and shook his head from side to side, his parents were crazy about her.
henry started strumming the chords slowly at first and then they picked up speed, he sang the first verse they had wrote together. "how does that sound with the verse?" henry said still strumming the chord pattern. he figured that hadley would pick this up quickly by just looking at his fingers. "it's a D, C, A minor, and G chord. all in that order too." henry said, strumming them slower so she could catch on. "let me hear the bridge." henry said strumming back up to speed with hadley. he could also play the piano but most of the time they keyboard just sat there unplayed. he preferred his grand piano back at home anyways. his dad was a piano teacher so growing up he had picked up quite easily. henry stopped strumming, "by the way, my mom's thinking about making sara's old room into a guest room for you.. i'm pretty sure she even has bow decorations picked out from ikea.." henry rolled his eyes, his mother always insisted hadley stay with them instead. maybe it was because his only sister had moved out and all she had was a house filled with four boys. she probably missed a feminine touch around the house. "i told her she's insane.. but since you almost live at our house most weekends.. she figured you'd feel more at home there." henry's mom was insane.. truly insane.. but deep inside, henry loved his moms insanity. it meant more time with hadley, the more time he had.. maybe he would be okay with leaving her. or maybe it would make saying goodbye harder.

it was hard for hadley not having any parents to support her through everything. she always dreamed about having her mom get her ready for prom, as her dad stood there taking pictures of it so they could remember the moments forever. but she was never going to have that, at least not with her own parents. most of the kids in school had no idea she did not live with her parents, but then again, most of them didn't care. it took her awhile to build up the courage to tell henry what had happened. it was hard showing someone your weak side. when she had told him, it was the first time she let her guard down and cried in front of someone that wasn't family. it was then when she realized that henry was going to be by her side forever. he would always be a friend to her no matter what happened. and if the unfortunate event of him passing away happened, she knew that he would be above watching her from heaven, and making sure that nothing hurt her.
hadley watched him, wishing that she could take all of the pain away from him. she knew he could only have so much medicine, and some medicines weren't allowed to mix. "i just know you too well by now. at first i could never really tell anything with you. but slowly i began to read you quicker and quicker," she said, placing a hand on his shoulder. hadley felt that once you began to know someone, you could read a lot of their body language. she could never pinpoint what he was thinking, but she knew when he was in pain, and she knew when he was happy. it amazed her that no matter how much pain he was in, he could always put a smile on his face and act like nothing was wrong. if it was her, she could never do that. she wasn't that strong. "i'm glad my bow loving, multi colored hair, gapped tooth self can make such an amazing guy like you happy," she said, before ruffling his hair gently. she was always so careful, she didn't want to put him in any more pain than he already had. "i'm happy you love them, that makes two of us," she added, before smiling at him. there was something about him that could always make her smile. maybe it was that he always knew what to say to make her feel wonderful about herself. she had no idea what she would do without him.
"i really do think that he is going to propose. he has been talking about it. and they are really happy together. it's adorable. but sometimes i feel like i am always in the way, i know they want to start a family soon and stuff..." she trailed off, before staring at the ground for a second. whenever they did want alone time she was free to go over to henry's with open arms. even if they weren't home, it was fine for her to go over and do whatever. after she had begun going over to his house all the time, his parents even gave her one of the extra keys, and told her to come over any time that she pleased. it was nice that they trusted her enough. "well i wouldn't have done the talent show if it wasn't for you urging me to do so," she said. hadley had terrible stage fright when she first arrived, but henry had urged her to do the talent show, and she really wanted to make him happy. it was a complete shock when she had actually won.
hadley listened to him play the chords to the first verse, and she listened to his beautiful voice sing along with the verse. "i really like it," she said before strumming the chords out herself, playing what he just had played, but not nearly as good as he did it. "i will never be able to play guitar like you can," she smiled at him. it was true, he was a phenomenal musician, and she adored everything that he was able to do. she sung out the bridge at his request, looking at him hoping to receive a nod of approval. "i like it, but if you don't i could always try and think of something different," it wasn't hard for hadley to write, but she hoped that what she had written was up to his standards. whenever she brought something for him to hear or look at, she wanted it to be perfect, and she was pretty proud of this bridge. "does she really? awww, she is way to sweet to me. i will like the bows... is she sure though?" hadley asked before looking at him once more. "if so, i will probably be there more than i am now," she admitted, giggling softly. she loved being over with henry and his parents.

hadley had known henry for so long and if anyone wanted to know anything about him, they had to be able to read his body language. the way he subtly hinted the way he felt with his actions, it was quite obvious. henry also noticed when hadley wasn't feeling too well herself. today, he noticed that she was very worried about him. she was trying really hard not show her concern though, henry always appreciated when she treated him like nothing was wrong.. but it was difficult to see her so torn up about him. "it's like your a henry-psychic now!" henry made a shocked face but it quickly dissolved into laughter. she placed a hand on his shoulder and he stopped laughing, her touch made him feel so warm and cuddly inside. she had no idea the effect she had on him, the effect she had on anyone actually. hadley was beautiful and when she sang it was like the whole world stopped just so they could listen. when hadley started listing off things about her that most people would think would be strange, henry immediately wanted to say, "but all those things are what makes me fall more and more in love with you everyday.." but he bit his tongue down hard to stop his words from escaping. she ruffled his hair, henry grinned as he flicked his hair back into shape. "you're perfect, just the way you are hadley. you're my little ray of sunshine." henry grinned, he really didn't know where he'd be without hadley's support. she was there from the first chemotherapy session right up to the last. she was even there when he had to shave his head last summer.
henry had been hearing about hadley's brother wanting to propose but he never followed through with it. he probably was super nervous and didn't know what to say to her. he knew if he ever proposed he'd be nervous as heck and would probably end up tripping over his words. "i think he'll follow through this time too. last time i saw him and his girlfriend they looked really happy together. i can't even imagine how happy they'll be to finally be engaged." henry smiled, he would look forward to attending the wedding --that is if he could attend the wedding. "hadley, you're never in the way. your brother would never kick you out." henry would be really angry if he did that to her. hadley would be welcomed with open arms into his home. his sister had left a year ago and his mother wanted another girl in the house more than anything.
henry strummed the tune and hadley played along, her strum pattern matching his just a tad bit slower. "i'm glad you like it, took me a long time to get it right." henry said as he strummed the pattern a little bit faster. guitar has always been his thing, piano came with tons of practice but his heart was always with his guitar. "i'll teach you and you'll be the best guitar player ever." henry smiled warmly, he always believed in hadley. no matter what she wanted to do, henry would be there for as long as he could. henry lived for hadley, she is the main reason why henry is alive today. when hadley started singing, henry continued to strum along to her words. he closed his eyes and just was mesmerized by her voice. henry opened his eyes and stopped playing when she was done. "your voice is so amazing hadley, i loved the lyrics. it was beautiful, actually more than beautiful, it was perfect." henry never talked much with other people but when he got talking to hadley about music and lyrics.. he could go on forever.
when he mentioned his mother was making up a room for her, she immediately smiled. henry was glad she would have a place to call home after her brother started to get serious with his girlfriend. "i swear my mother loves ikea so i think designing a room for you is more of a pleasure for her." henry chuckled softly, "of course she's sure, she'll probably bring in wallpaper swatches and paint colours to the dinner table tonight." henry rolled his eyes, his mother always insisted hadley would stay with them. "she's totally pushing the 'hadley-needs-a-mother-role-in-her-life-and-i've-always-wanted-another-daughter.' card on you." henry chuckled softly, his father was the same way with her. he was over protective and always wanted henry to get the courage to tell her how he felt.. before he ran out of time. "i hate to bring this up when we're having so much fun but i'm due for another chemo session this thursday, they think it's getting worse." henry hated putting a damper on a good situation but if he all of a suddenly disappeared from school on thursday and friday he knew she'd be concerned.

hadley tried her best not to worry about henry, but it was nearly impossible. a person just couldn't not worry about a person that they cared dearly about. it didn't work that way. when she first met henry and found out about his condition, it was hard on her. but it wasn't until they really got to know each other where she would worry all the time. even when she wasn't with him, she was constantly checking up on him, sending him texts and calling him whenever she could. she tried to make it as normal as possible for him, but she knew that he knew that she cared about him. "maybe i should get a little crystal ball and your face will show up and tell me what you are doing at all times!" she said, laughing a little bit. she could not see herself sitting down with a crystal ball, trying to figure out what henry was doing, but it was a funny picture to think about. "you are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happyyyyyyy," she sang before laughing a little. when she was a little girl, back when her parents loved her, her mother would sing that to her all the time. not so much anymore. now hadley was known for bursting into random song all the time, but she felt as if the last burst was necessary.
for the past few weeks, hadley had been trying to get her family member to propose, but he had been reluctant. marrying a person was a life committment, and as much as he wanted to be with her forever, he wasn't sure if he should ask her. but hadley urged him on as much as she could, telling him that they were perfect together. "i have been telling him to pop the question but he is extremely nervous. which is understandable, but they're perfect together! he needs to get on it!," she said to him. "i know he would never kick me out... but i just think negatively at times. i probably shouldn't," she sighed. it was easier said than done.
she smiled at him while he played. "of course i like it. everything you do is perfect." she looked at him before looking down at the chords she had been strumming. it was harder for her to play guitar than some people, and a lot of it had to do with the fact that her hands were pretty small. "i could never be a better player than you! ever! the way you play guitar.. it's amazing. i wish i was that good, and i know i will never be as good as you," she said, shaking her head softly. she really admired the way he played. and even if she tried to get better, there was no way she was ever going to be as good as he was. hadley had always been better at putting words together. writing was her thing. every time she went through something she had to write about it. she even had a notebook that she used to write down random things that came to her mind, and she never wanted to lose an idea. she would go home at night and write for hours. whether it was lyrics, or just a story, she loved to write. "i'm really glad you liked it. i had a couple other lyrics, but these were my favorite," she nodded.
hadley had moved around a lot in the past few years, and she was really looking forward to be able to call a place home. so far she had not been settled. she had been with her brother for a few years, but she couldn't stay with him forever. it wasn't fair to him or his girlfriend. "your mom is adorable," she said. she could just picture her now picking out things to design a new room. "i'm just really glad your parents have accepted me.. it sucks knowing my real parents want nothing to do with what i have become," she whispered, taking a deep breath before continuing. "but your parents are so supportive and have been there for me a lot." she added, looking up at henry. hadley really appreciated how much henry and his parents had been there for him. "i'd be glad to be her daughter," she laughed, trying to lighten up the mood a little bit. but it didn't last long before henry put another mood damper on her. "w-worse?" she said, taking his hands in hers. "no- they have to be mistaken," she bit her lip. notes: gah omg sorry this sucks so bad D: le outfit.

henry wanted to get better, really he did. he wanted to get better for his family and for his own life. as guilty as this was, he wanted to get better for hadley. he almost resented telling her about his condition because now she had to share the burden with him. this disease was a heavy weight on their friendship but it made it much more stronger. he just hated seeing her hurt when he ached much more. "i think i'd like one of those crystal balls for you too." henry said chuckling softly. he was in the hospital for days on end and when school got really busy for hadley he would miss her. he would wonder what she was up too all the time. "you make me happyyyy, when skies are graaaaaaaaayyyy." henry sang the next line with hadley, he loved when she randomly burst into song. it was adorable.
"i'm sure if i ever got to propose i'd chicken out too, so i can imagine how much pressure he's feeling." henry admitted softly blushing, he hid it away from her though. if he got the chance to propose he wanted it to be hadley, only she deserved to have his heart. well, she already had his heart actually. "if he ever kicked you out it'd be the happiest day of my parents lives." henry laughed softly to ease the tension. henry blushed when she said everything he did was perfect. "i think you're the perfect one." he said as he stopped playing and tapped her nose with one finger. she watched him as he started strumming again, obviously trying to learn it. henry picked up guitar chords much faster whereas hadley could write songs in a couple hours... he could write a song in two months. they had their own individual strengths which made them a good team. "i can teach you the piano, it's much simpler. i don't know if you can already play it.. but it's easier in a lot of peoples eyes. i could never write songs like you though, you're so good at it." her lyrics were impeccable. most of the time moving him to tears when he heard them. he would quickly wipe them away before she saw though. the lyrics she just sang for him were gorgeous, they fit the strum pattern really well. he just wished she could record a track with him, just one so he could listen to it forever. "i'm glad you chose those ones, they fit so well and you always know what words to choose." henry gave a perky smile.
"oh you're flattering her too much." henry said waving a hand off at her. sure, his mom was tiny and had a cute frame but she wasn't as cute as hadley. actually, hadley was the definition of perfection. even if she didn't think so, she was henry's definition of perfection. "you're always welcomed into the abrams household, you're practically one already." henry stated and smiled. she came over for most of the holidays and they even invited her brother and his girlfriend one time for easter. the abrams didn't have much money or many belongings but they did have a lot of love. "your parents are silly hadley, whoever they are, they're dumb for not wanting you as a daughter. they're really missing out on the most amazing girl i've ever met." henry smiled weakly, his body was so sore from fighting off this disease.
at the mention of his worsening condition she quickly grabbed his hand and her voice started to shake. he squeezed her hand, "don't worry about me, i'm fine. i'm sure it's just a scare." henry's voice was low and soothing. he didn't want to make her overly concerned or worried. "i'm only in stage two, i'm going to get better hadley.. i feel fine." henry was lying to himself and to hadley but he didn't want her to know he was scared himself that he was entering stage three... "i just hope they don't have to shave my head again, it just grew back." henry said patting his hair with his free hand and gave a meek smile.

she smiled at him. "i would only use one if you were the one who got it for me.. though i don't even know where you can buy one of those," she said. it made her wonder just where the people who read fortunes found everything. when he began singing back to her she smiled once more, this time even bigger. it was adorable when he completed the songs she randomly burst out singing. "i am really glad the girls aren't usually the ones to propose and ask people out on dates. cause it really is nervewracking. half of the time i can't even speak to a guy, let alone ask them on a date," she said. it was true. henry was one of the only guys that she could have a legit conversation with, and not want to run off in embarrassment. "you are the only guy that i feel comfortable around... but it's okay. it's because you're not judgmental and you make me feel good about myself," she added. hadley blushed a little bit when he called her perfect and tapped her nose with his finger. again, he really made her feel good about herself. "oh yes! i would love to learn piano," she said. the piano always fascinated her, but she never took the steps to actually learn how to play, but if henry was willing to show her, she really wanted to learn to play now. "you're always so sweet to me," she blushed once more before giving him a small hug, careful no to hurt him.
"i am not flattering her too much! she is seriously adorable," she said, smiling up at him. his mother had always been good to hadley. when hadley needed anything she could always go talk to his mom, and she would give the best advice. "you are honestly the sweetest person i have ever met in my life. if my parents never kicked me out, i wouldn't have met you. so i guess clouds really do have their silver linings," she said, placing her hand on his. "telling me to not worry isn't possible. i worry about you every second of the day. and please don't lie to me. i know you aren't feeling the greatest," she frowned. "i love your hair. but you will look great whichever way you have to go," she said softly.

henry loved when hadley smiled, she was so perfect. "i'll try to find you one just in time for christmas." henry chuckled softly, he felt so relieved to be around hadley. she had this calming sense to her that made henry feel so much better. when he started singing to finish hadley's song she started to smile once more. henry felt good knowing he was the cause of this smile. "well i think it's a guys job to ask the girl to marry him.. it's only right because i feel like the girl has to give up so much to be with a guy.. it's only right if he asks her to give up everything for him. after all, they have to give up everything to begin their new lives together." henry said to the ground before looking back up to hadley and blushing away. it wasn't often when henry said such soft-spoken words from the heart, he had always thought them but never made them vocalized. henry was a thoughtful guy and he was always afraid to show his softer side. "what kind of friend would i be if i made you feel like crap all the time?" henry laughed, "i just want you to be happy hadley, that's it." henry said looking into her eyes before shying away. he missed playing the piano, sometime's his fingers were so sore he couldn't.. but he would push through the pain. it was well worth the three minute song. "i'll teach you all that i know about piano." henry smiled warmly. "you're always sweet to me, i must return the favor." she blushed before giving him a hug, he hugged her back before releasing her.
"if you say so." henry said laughing and rolling his eyes jokingly. his mom was very kind to everyone who touched her life. she didn't have a mean bone in her body and henry loved her. "thanks." he blushed, "i can't imagine my life without you in it.. when i first got diagnosed i lost all hope but you were there since day one with a smile on your face.. you were the only one who didn't treat me differently." henry said softly. hadley could see right through his lies obviously, he just didn't want her to fret. he was going to get better, for hadley. henry sighed, "i'm not feeling so good today. but, that's only because they switched my medication." henry smiled weakly. he was glad she supported him either way. "thanks hadley, i-i-i was so nervous when you first walked in and saw me the first time they had to." he frowned, hoping they wouldn't do it again. "so, you'll come with me to my appointment?" he asked, he just wanted her to come and hold his hand after the chemo. he would probably puke like most times but she was there ready to soothe him through the pain.

every time she was around henry, hadley found herself always smiling. even when she was going through the hardest time, he was always there saying and doing things that made her smile. "then i can read your fortune for you! and tell you everything that happens in your future, if you want to know!" she said. though hadley wasn't sure if she would even want to know what happened in the future. there would be no surprises to look forward to. and she loved that life was a surprise. "hmmm, i see where you are coming from. but when a girl meets a guy that she wants to be with for the rest of her life, she doesn't really care what she is giving up. she would give up anything to be with him. at least that's the way i am." she said, thinking about who she could see herself ending up with. the first person that popped into her mind was henry, which made her blush a little. she tried hiding her face with her hair for a second, because he obviously had no idea why she was blushing. "you really make me feel like i'm the most beautiful girl in the world.." she trailed off, hoping she wasn't making the conversation awkward in any way. "i'm really excited to learn the piano! and i'm always sweet cause you're the most amazing guy in the world and nothing is ever going to change that," she said with another smile.
"i do say so mister, don't roll your eyes at me!" she joked before bursting into laughter. hadley had no idea why she was laughing all the time, but she was sure that she looked like a fool. but for some reason, she didn't care. it seemed like henry liked it when she acted like a complete fool. "and i will never ever treat you differently. you're always going to be in my life, and we will always sit here and joke with each other and make each other smile. no matter if you're feeling one hundred percent, or you're sitting in a hospital bed. i will be there trying to make you smile. that's a promise," she said, looking him in the eyes as she spoke. there was nothing but truth in what she just said. no matter what happened, she was going to be there for him. it was a promise and she was the type who would not break a promise, no matter what she did. she nodded before she spoke. "of course i will come with you to your appointment. it's not even a question. and i really do hope you feel better," she frowned a little bit. she wished she could take all of the pain away.

henry was always smiling around hadley, everything was just sunshine and lollipops around her. he felt like he was infinite and nothing would ever stop him from loving her. "you'd be the cutest fortune teller." henry said looking down and blushing, he thought of hadley adorned in colourful charms and bandanna headband --typical gypsy clothes. he looked back up to hadley and smiled. the future was a scary thing to think about and he tried not to think about him not being in hadley's life.. it broke his heart everytime he thought of her being without him and his family. he didn't want to be up in heaven watching her, he wanted to be here on earth with her. "so you would give up your entire life if the right guy walked into your life..?" henry asked shyly, the perfect guy for her was right infront of her.. he had walked into her life a long time ago and was planning on staying in her life forever. if henry was going to marry anyone and live with someone for the rest of his life.. it would be hadley. "because you are the most beautiful girl in the world..." henry replied softly, a little hushed and hadley probably didn't hear it. "i'll teach you some tonight when you come over then. and thank you hadley, i'm glad to have a friend like you." he said sweetly.
henry laughed, "yes hadley, i won't roll my eyes again." he said apologetically. she burst out laughing with him and they both shared a nice laugh. man, hadley was beautiful when she laughed. henry bit his lip and choked down some words he wished he could say. he always thought so much but never made his words vocalized, it just wasn't who he was. "you'll always be in my life too. i mean my looong life ahead of me will be filled with laughter and smiles because i know you'll be right by my side." henry was an introvert at heart but around hadley he felt no need to be antisocial. the conversations just flowed between the two of them, making it quite easy to talk to her. henry laced his fingers into hadley's, "i promise i will get better for you hadley, i can't stand the thought of leaving earth without you." henry looked into her eyes and then released her fingers. he didn't want to make it awkward by holding her hand for too long. henry sat back in his chair and pushed his glasses further up on his nose. "i saw that guy in our music class couldn't get his eyes off of you the other day. oh what's his name--" henry snapped his fingers together, "jesse! --he looked like he reeeally liked you." henry rolled his eyes, he didn't like the idea of other guys liking hadley. he actually dreaded it. he wouldn't admit this to her though, he would just play the protective friend role.
