Vanessa hadn’t gone to a lot of elite parties ever since her parents disowned her because she didn’t have enough money to buy fancy clothes to wear or she was worthy enough of getting an invite. This time she got the invite, everybody got the invite. Samantha mackenna was sympathetic enough to invite almost everyone in la to go. Vanessa wasn’t the kind of girl to just let a party slide, especially if it was a masquerade party. Where everything was so mysterious and beautiful, men wearing masks and just meeting new people, she could even get back into the elite part that she loved so much. She missed it so much it was killing her. She didn’t know how to survive a few months ago, she almost died if it wasn’t for a kind person to help her with everything, she would probably be dead right now. Vanessa was an elite girl, she didn’t belong in the poor section, she needed to get back on top.
Putting her mask on, she paid the cab driver with her last money of the month and just got out. She bit her lower lip as she looked into her bag and saw no money. How was she getting home after this? She better get a ride home or she would have to walk… but on those heels that might be a little hard. She could always walk barefooted but it might hurt. She shook her head trying to just forget the thought she was having and started to walk towards the door. Looking around her mouth went wide. She forgot how overwhelming these parties could be. Everything was so beautiful and just plain simple. Who said simple can’t be beautiful? No one, of course but the point was that to Vanessa everything was just perfect.
Vanessa started to look around and check out the crowd, trying to look for someone that could call into her attention. She looked around and started to see people having fun, people dancing around and even some people kissing in the corners. Well this was one hell of a party. She noticed that no one was looking at her, she usually didn’t happen whenever she was around, because she was the girl that people always looked but this time no one was looking. She is used to all the attention and all of this that happened in the last months was destroying her. She headed to a table and picked up a drink. She knew this night was going to suck because was already sucking… and bad.

Elliot wasn’t one for parties, he was actually the type of person who would avoid going to a party and would instead stay at home and sleep or finish up any of the homework he neglected to do. It wasn’t that he didn’t like parties, because that wasn’t the case at all, it was more so the fact that he never had much money to buy anything that was really nice. It wasn’t that he didn’t have money, because he did. It was more of the fact that he tried to save up the money that he had for college or the things that he needed, while his mother tried to do what she could and his father was nowhere to be found. The man had run off when Elliot was about ten years old, he went to buy something and never came back even though his mother waited a year for him and then decided that he was never coming back. The divorce forms came in the mail a week later, apparently he had been having an affair all along and had a new life in another town and was leaving his only son behind. He hadn’t heard from him since and even seemed to wonder if he had any other children now, he was almost sure that he did.
Today was one of those parties he just couldn’t seem to pass up though, the thought of dressing up and not having anyone know who he was seemed to just appeal to him since he happened to be one of those private people. His whole life happened to just be a mess of lies, and he thought it would be fun to lie about just who he was to people and hoped it worked out well for him. His plan was to just make his way through the party unseen and unnoticed and stay there for an hour or two and then leave and just go home, and it sounded like a good plan. Putting his mask on he glanced into the mirror running his fingers slowly through his hair, this was his attempt at fixing it and lacing up his shoes. He was about ready to do now, and he thought he looked pretty good too, more like a gentleman than he usually did.
The ride to the actual party was a pretty quiet one, since he drove alone the quiet sounds of his radio playing the only noise around as he drummed his fingers on his steering wheel almost nervously. He looked the part, but he wasn’t too sure if he could play the part as one of the elites and doubted that it was ever possible. His scuffed up shoes were enough to show that he wasn’t one of those people who had a lot of nice things and when he could afford nice things, he didn’t always buy them and instead bought the things that he really needed at the time. He could be given money for something and he would use it for food or something his mom needed instead, because it just made him feel so much better when he used the money he made for important things.
Pulling up at the party he bit down on his lip, stepping out of his car running his fingers through his hair once more fixing his mask on his face and glancing around at all the cars on the road glancing at his old car with a shrug. He liked his car, at least it still worked and heading into the party he headed right to a corner away from everyone else. If anyone approached him it was fine, but beyond that he was just going to stay where he was pretty much invisible. (Sorry there's no template, I was being lazy outfit)

Vanessa took a deep breath, she was starting to get so bored. Nobody would come to get her to dance, nobody would offer her a drink or anything. She knew why but she was afraid to admit it that people only did those things to her whenever she had slutty clothes and was ready to give them what they want. A good night of sex. Her heart started to hurt more and more and it was like she suffocating. Is this all I am worth for? Sex? She thought to herself as she took another drink from the table as the one in her hand was finished. Not even a gentleman would turn to her… or even look. Her whole heart dropped. She was about to cry when she noticed a guy pass right through her towards the corner. Just like her, her was invisible, no one seemed to notice him. She looked at him carefully just taking his figure in. she knew she already seen that walk somewhere but she couldn’t even figure it out where. Looking to his shoes she figured it out that he was part of her world. Well at least some of it, he could still be middle class.
Taking a deep breath, she bit her lower as she walked over to the guy standing right next to him for a while with the drink in her hand. It was weird how a girl like Vanessa was afraid of coming out and just speak to someone. This time she was. She loved over to him over her glass as she took a sip. She didn’t know why but this guy made an impress on her. His body was fine as hell and he seemed the guy of guy she would actually date. She was hoping that he didn’t let her go once he saw her because the way she was dressed, she looked a lot like an elite. Even though she wasn’t.
Finally taking a deep breath, she turned to the guy and just smiled. “hi.” She just babbled out still a little shy. Well that wasn’t hard now was it? Taking another deep breath, she put her hand in front of him and simply asked. “would you like to dance with me? Since both of us are and are invisible?!” she knew that he felt just the way she did, she didn’t know if that was his point or not. The music filled her ears as she started to day dream. Wondering how the guy looked without the mask, his lips were soft and pink, his brown, almost hazel, eyes that looked like they could get into our soul and read our minds. Her breath started to rise a bit as she waited for the strangers’ reaction. She was just hoping he would say no because she didn’t know what else to do, she was obviously lost, like she had never been before in a party like this.

Elliot just seemed to stand there in his own little corner, away from all the other people around because he liked to believe that was about the easiest thing for him to do at this time. He wasn’t much of a talker and he was sure he didn’t really know anyone around, and the people that he did know all had dates anyway so it really didn’t matter. He wasn’t going to go and bug people he knew were probably having a lot more fun here than he was, and he knew that he could easily have fun if he decided to actually go and talk to someone but that actually took effort which was something that he didn’t really seem to really have. He was a lazy ass and he was not afraid to really say that, he would really just stand there the whole time and do nothing else because it just seemed a lot easier and if anyone decided to approach him than he would actually talk but till then he would just observe. That was what he did best after all, he was more of an observer than anything else and he liked things that way too. It gave him the chance to really see the people around him, no matter how creepy it really seemed to be.
It just seemed that everyone was dressed so much better than him, and here he was in his slightly too small for him pair of pants and it was clear that he just wasn’t really one for really dressing up. It was a true statement too, Elliot actually despised dressing up and if it wasn’t for the fact that he wanted to try and fit in for once he would have just came here and jeans and stood out. He would have laughed seeing all the people staring at him when he walked in, of course he would have worn his mask but other than that he would have just been his self. What was the fun of that though; these events were all for being who you weren’t and that was just what he was doing. The only think he had to show people just who was were his shoes and the fact he had a few burns on his hands from baking so much.
This was just around the time when a mysterious girl happened to walk up to him and said hi, a small smile seemed to plan itself on his face and he seemed happy someone actually approached him. “Hello there” he said something why he seemed to think he heard this person’s voice before but decided not to really ask anything about it, he found that it was rude to ask even so he just grinned when he held out her hand and began to speak again. So she basically felt the same way that he did, which he thought was a good thing in a place like this when he knew that he was basically just an outsider now. “I would love to dance with you, I was just thinking that I was just an outsider here and this was going to be no fun at all” he laughed almost and just took her hand in his. “Perhaps you can change my mind” and with that he was just ready to go out there and dance.

Vanessa was actually surprised that the guy took her hand. She felt his burnt hands in hers and just moved a finger over his softly burnt skin. Even though his voice sounded like a person she knew, she didn’t ask who she was, the mystery was to find out in the end and not right now. She smiled to him softly looking once again into his softly pink lips. “well maybe I will make you change your mind.” She said biting her lower lip. She stopped in the middle of the dance floor, turning her body to him and wrapping her arms around his neck. It was valentine’s day, so all they put through the loud speakers spread across the room was ballads and slow songs. They made her a little depressed, because they all speak of the same thing, how people fall in love and live happy ever after. Total lie. That never happened, why should they lie. People never meet one person and boom, its happy ever after. Never. Vanessa knew that people must suffer a lot to find their other half, even if there was another half but if there was more women in the world than men, unless a lot of them turn lesbian then some women don’t have their other half. Something in there didn’t add up.
She was a slightly taller than him cause of her heels, but her eyes could meet his even if she just looked in front. She stared a little into his eyes, her body coming closer to his, their noses inches apart. Her heart was beating so fast that she couldn’t help it but to breathe sort of heavily. She was fascinated with what was happening. Snapping out of her trance, she bit her lower lip once more. “you don’t often come to these parties right?” she whispered into his ear softly taking a softly breathe in taking in his smell. It was so soft and sweet. Her eyes shunt close as she kept her head close to his head their ears barely touching. Was she falling for a complete stranger? Well stranger things happened to her so this could be something completely normal. She kept her head almost laid in his shoulder as she waited for his reply.
Her hands behind the back of his neck softly rubbed the piece of skin and hair that almost blend in together. Opening her eyes after a while, she looked around and just to see how everybody was enjoying their evening. She slightly pulled him closer, pressing her body against him. Hopefully he wouldn’t get scared. She needed someone to cuddle, she needed someone to give her some affection. Other than some of her friends at work, she had none. This was something that she needed just to put her spirit up a little, because she might end up into a deep depression. “be my valentine tonight?” she whispered to his ear. She just wanted to have someone she could hug and maybe even kiss at least once, on this valentine’s day. It has been too long.

Elliot had burnt hands for a reason, working long hours some days in a bakery tended to do that to you because sometimes he ended up touching something hot and burnt his self. It was a really stupid move and he knew that, but sometimes when you were in a rush you weren’t really thinking and thinking wasn’t something that Elliot actually did often. He actually tended to be one of those people who got easily distracted at work, because working with Vanessa it was really bound to happen. He didn’t even know how these things seemed to happen to him, he just woke up one day and everything changed in his head. She no longer seemed to be just a friend to him; sometimes she was actually just all that he could actually think about, he was smitten from the start. “Yes maybe you can, and just so you know I have my hopes up now” he grinned to show that he was basically just joking around with her. He was never a fan of Valentine’s Day, mostly because he never had anyone to really celebrate it with before and even when he did it still wasn’t as fun. It was basically just another day to him lately, a day where he could just sit at home and wish he had a girlfriend. Yes, he really was one of those guys and he thought it was just pathetic.
Elliot liked to believe he was a pretty tall guy, but he knew he was not the tallest around and in heels this girl was a few inches taller than him and he had to glance up only slightly to look at her the minute she had wrapped her arms around his neck causing him to bite down on his lip. The last time a girl had done this to him had been at his cousin’s wedding, and that was dancing with a family member and he wasn’t quite sure it actually counted because the girl was a foot shorter than him and twelve, oh no this was a whole new world and a whole different feeling. He wasn’t sure how to really explain this feeling but looking at the girl he was almost certain he heard her voice from somewhere, it was almost funny how familiar it sounded but he wasn’t sure just from where. “I don’t really party much at all, I am normally working or doing school work. I need good grades if I plan to go into medical school someday” he snorted, he could dream big. That was about the time she laid her head on him, and he wasn’t sure just how to react, so he just seemed to move to the music slowly.
Elliot wasn’t much of a dancer either, in fact he happened to have two left feet and he was shocked that he hadn’t ended up stepping on the girl’s feet. Him in his old, slightly dirty and flour covered shoes. All his shoes had flour on them though, it came from where he worked and he never seemed to mind it that much though because he liked his job. The girl pushed herself against him then and he blinked slightly almost confused and even a little nervous now, he had no idea how to react but he just happened to keep her close to him trying to avoid her feet. That was when she asked her question, and at first he was just confused. He bit his lip and nodded, “I think I can do that” he whispered and he actually meant that too.

Vanessa’s lips formed a little smile when he said he had his hopes up. She was happy on the outside but on the inside she was scared to death. She had the bad way of letting people down, just like she did a few months ago. At night she still woke up with horrible nightmares of what happened to her and her twin. Her heart raced as she thought of all of it, her eyes almost starting to get watery, but tonight was the night she was going to have some fun and try to forget her past. “I hope I don’t let you down…” she said taking a deep breath as she stumbled a little on her words. She was really hoping to keep her ‘promise’ because then this would make her go insane. If this night wasn’t successful, she was going to move away far away, to a place where no one knew her, where she could forget her past, where she couldn’t see her parents on a daily basics. They had the bad habit of going to the bakery everyday to get their bread. This broke vanessa’s heart because they let her when she needed her the most even if it was her fault that veronica died. If this night didn’t work out, that was the plan, she was going to disappear.
Vanessa knew that deep inside no one around would miss her, the boy that she was in love with didn’t love her back. Elliot was all she could think about most of the day. She wasn’t a desperate kind of girl but she was starting to get really desperate about him. Her whole stomach twitched and turned whenever she would look at him or he would shoot a smile at her. if I love him so much… what am I doing here? she thought to herself for a second she thought about running away from him and just run towards elliot’s house and finally telling her how he feels, but she felt somehow that the guy she was dancing with her was Elliot. Well at least she could pretend it was him, just for a night, its better than not having anyone. “that explains why you are stepping on my feet so much…” she said chuckling. “don’t worry, I am used to it…” she added after, looking down to his feet.
She knew those shoes from somewhere, all covered in flour. Her eyes went wide when she realized. It couldn’t. She took a deep breath and just embraced the moment. Well it looked like she had her wish had been fulfilled. She was dancing with Elliot. She could recognize those shoes everywhere. “thank you” she simply stated, she was also hoping that he didn’t recognize her, but only if she took her mask he would know it was her. This was something she wanted to keep to herself. Her arms pulled him even closer as they moved to the sound of the music, she wanted that this night never ended, just because she felt like she was in heaven. She knew that this was going to be an amazing night now that she knew who she was dancing with.

When Elliot said that he had his hopes up for tonight he actually wasn’t sure if he was joking or not, because he was honestly really hoping that he would have fun and just have a great night. He didn’t want to go home and feel that it was just a total waste of time to even come, and so far it seemed like there was a pretty good chance he would go home happy and then go to work the very next day wondering just who this mystery girl was. Her voice just really sounded so familiar and when he ever figured it out, if he ever did figure it out he was sure he would feel pretty stupid for not figuring it out before. Hearing the girl speaking he was almost confused by her words, did she think that she would break her promise. He hoped that she wasn’t, because as far as he was concerned she was already doing a great job by just talking and dancing with him. “You are already doing a great job you know, so if you are worried thinking that you will let me down you should be thinking that way” he smiled because he seemed to think that could be something that would reassure her and he really hoped that it would. He didn’t want to upset her, or keep her worrying that tonight would just be a total complete failure in the end because it wasn’t so at all.
He even seemed to wonder why he was even here, when he knew he could have easily just sat at home and ate cookies watching movies all night. He was already head over heels in love with a girl, a girl he worked with and she didn’t even know. To her they were only friends and he seemed to think that they would always be that way, he would never be able to really tell her how he feels and even if he did she could never feel the same way about him. It was that simple thought that stopped him from coming clean with his feelings, the fear of actually losing the friendship that he worked so hard to make with her. It was a friendship that he really valued and looking at this girl before him, he just seemed to wonder if maybe even those feelings for Vanessa would get in the way of the night and he really did hope not. “I’m not meant for dancing, I’m meant for other things really” he laughed. He didn’t dance, he baked and that was what he was also going to stick with doing too. He was actually really good at baking and cooking even, and though he was planning on being a doctor he knew he could also do really well just baking and cooking.
His flour covered shoes were something that seemed just destined to happen, he worked so many hours in the bakery and he didn’t own many pairs of shoes and the pairs of shoes he did happen to actually own he ended up getting dirty in a short time. He wasn’t really that good with actually keeping things, no matter how much he could actually try to keep things at least a little decent looking. It never worked out that way and sometimes people even wondered if he was throwing flour on his self purposely, and sometimes it almost was like that. It just happened that someone else was actually the one throwing the flour, and perhaps he just shouldn’t be allowed around flour because he would always make a mess. “You’re welcome” he muttered in confusion almost, why was she saying thank you to him he wasn’t even sure.

Vanessa knew that staying at home wasn’t an option. She smiled to him when he said she was doing a good job. This was probably the best thing she ever did for a person, she was actually making someone happy just by not leaving them. She felt proud of herself that someone actually was glad that she was there. She didn’t feel that way many times. Even around Elliot. She felt like she wasn’t part of his world, even though she wanted so much to be. The night her parents threw her out the door, she cried for hours by their door begging for them to let her get in, it was the worse feeling she could have ever felt. She just stood there on her knees waiting for them but nothing. They never opened the door. She never felt more guilty or grossed with herself than she did that night. She thought about killing herself over and over again, she thought about every possible ways she could do It, but she was a coward. She couldn’t do it. She just couldn’t do it, she could have ended the pain that instant but she just couldn’t. she was the one that should have died… not her twin. Not veronica. Why do all the good one die young?
She chuckled at him, her eyes closing as their bodies moved to the sound of music. She tried to forget the pain that he was causing her, she had the day off the next day, so she could just rest and regain all the sensibility on her toes the next day. “don’t worry about it. It’s fine…” she said. She smiled when he said he was meant for other things. She knew what he was talking about cooking, more like baking, but he could cook too. she just wanted to be just as a great cooker as he was, or at least half of it? At least she wouldn’t eat that much junk food, like she did. She was really a zero at kitchen, even while making an omelet, she would burn something. If she was somewhere she had to cook for living, she would probably die.
She felt his you’re welcome a little shaky, but she didn’t care. She just enjoyed a little bit more time with her prince charming. Pulling back from the tight grip she was hanging him on, she looked right into his eyes, before leaning in and kissing his lips passionately. She wasn’t sure why she did it, but she knew this was probably her last chance of ever feeling elliot’s lips on hers, so she just took it. When her lips met his, she just flew away, it was like she had died and went to heaven. It was more than she was hoping for. Much more. Her lips moved with his softly before she pulled out and looked right into his eyes. She was happy but she was scared that would really push him away. “I’m…” she started her hand over her own lips still having the impression they still had their lips locked. “…sorry…” she continued. She started to take some steps back becoming more distant from Elliot. “i… shouldn’t have Elliot… I have to go…” she said before turning her back to him and just running towards the door. She didn’t know why she did it, but she knew that night had to end. He couldn’t find out it was her, or he would be very disappointed. She pushed the people away from her, making a big run towards it, just like Cinderella did at midnight, only it wasn’t midnight and she was nowhere close to being Cinderella.

He was actually surprised at his self for coming to this party, because he wasn’t one for parties and that was obvious in the way he was presenting his self tonight. He was obviously not dressed like one of the richer folk here, with his old and even slightly wrinkled clothes and his flour covered shoes he looked more like someone who could possibly be working the party than attending it and he noted that more than once someone even asked him if he was. Yes money was tight at home since his father left, but he decided that he and his mother were better off without him anyway. The man was a horrible person, who cared more about his booze and his whores than he did about his own family and when he left Elliot hardly even cared. He even told some people that the guy was dead, because to Elliot he almost seemed that way. He was as good as good in Elliot’s book, he caused the family enough grief after all and he knew for a fact that if he even tried to come back and say he was sorry there was no way Elliot could ever let him back into his life. His father was a man he never wanted to become, and he would work hard to achieve that no matter what.
For a moment Elliot stared down at the girl’s toes knowing he was probably hurting them, he felt really bad about that too but he really wasn’t meant for dancing. He wasn’t graceful at all, and some people could even call him clumsy because he happened to be really clumsy and he was the type of person who fell all the time and even ran into wall. “I am actually really clumsy, so me being here on this dance floor was just asking for it” he mumbled staring up again with a small sigh and even a frown. He was obviously not proud of being as clumsy as he was, but it wasn’t something that he could really actually avoid either. He was just a clumsy person, and not the most quiet around in being so. He was always knocking things over, and burning his fingers, it was a good thing he always carried band-aids around.
His you’re welcome was a little shaky for a reason, he was actually really confused as to just why he was saying thank you to him because he just didn’t seem to get what he did for her to say it. In his opinion he didn’t do much of anything, and a part of him thought there was a lot more that he could do and he just had to figure out what. That was just when the girl kissed him, taking him by total surprise he didn’t know just how to react but he was sure he seemed to feel something there. He seemed to wonder if that was what people felt like when they said that they felt sparks and he was almost certain that it just had to be, he loved it. He just wished it didn’t have to end so soon because he was fine with just standing here a little longer and just kissing her, her lips seemed so nice on his. He looked at her when she said that she was sorry, and he was about to say something in till she had said his name and he just seemed to blink. She knew just who he was, but he didn’t know who he was. This girl who had just kissed him, and now she was leaving. He wasn’t sure what to do, and in a second he was after her. “Wait, I don’t even know who you are” he pushed his way through the people, he was just really wondering who the mystery person was because she seemed to know him.

Vanessa for a few minutes, she just imagined what it would be like if she ever dated elliot. One thing she knew, she would be happiest girl in the world. He was just a genuine sweetheart and caring guy. Nothing that Vanessa deserved. He was too good for her. In a way she was happy that he didn’t like her back because he deserved much better. He just needed a girl that would threat him right and Vanessa was sure she wasn’t that kind of girl. She could never hang on to a boyfriend. There was always a problem with her, she was either too energetic or just too messy. No guy ever wanted to stick her around her. They would just use her and throw her away. She got used to it and now she just felt like no one really could need her for anything. Even thought she seemed very confident, her self-esteem was pretty much crushed and dead. She was good enough to pretend everything and just move on. She never got into a deep depression or anything like that, she was strong and she could take all the hit people gave her that she always found a way to get back together and continue her road.
Vane knew he was a clumsy person, so she just let out a light chuckle and nodded. She didn’t care that he was stepping her, she was used to it actually. She was taking some dance lessons and she had some guy she would dance with that literally put her toes black. They were gross for the longest time; she couldn’t even wear heels anywhere. So what Elliot was doing was nothing compared to what she had been through.
While kept running away from him, she raised the mask a little cleaning the few tears she had in her face. She was crying not because she was sad but because she was happy she got at least one kiss from the guy she loved. She could hear him speak and it made her stop a little as she was about to run up the stairs. “it’s better that you don’t know who I am.” She said turning to him. Maybe one day she would tell him, or anything like that. Right now there was nothing that favored her in telling him that it was her, his co-worker that almost every day bugged him and put him all covered in flour. To him, she felt like she was just the pain in the ass he didn’t want to have around for a long time. They were friends, good friends even, but sometimes Vanessa was the kind of girl that would make him go crazy at work. It was surprising she was still working in the same place as him. She just had luck because her boss thought she was a total babe.
“I don’t want you to be disappointed.” She said putting her hand over his cheek and rubbing it softly. He had such a soft skin that it made her melt even more. Touching him, it was like she was flying. “maybe, one day I’ll come and find you. But now I have to go. I am sorry.” She added, leaning towards him and put a small peck on his lips and just ran back up the stairs. She could have stayed with him a little bit more, but the more she stayed the harder it got to go away after. As she walked out of the door, she looked back to see if he was following her. Well, if he did come after her it was because he felt something too but it wasn’t for Vanessa. It was this mystery girl that was with him that night. It wasn’t genuine, it wasn’t the same. She felt like she was kind of fooling him. This was wrong. He deserved more than that. She just couldn’t stand and seeing him like that. Her hand raised to get a cab as the other took the mask away from her face. For a brief second, she looked behind without her mask before she hooped into the cab and just told him to drive away. |
