Sam had been planning this party for over a week, trying to get the perfect decorations and the perfect food to satisfy everyone that would be attending. However, her main goal was simply to spend Valentine's Day with her boyfriend. Since she and Ryan couldn't be seen out in public together, this was the perfect opportunity for her to spend time with him especially since their identities would be hidden by masks. No one would know who was actually her unless she said something because she was easily hidden from the paparazzi.
The only thing that made her nervous was the fact that everyone's faces would be hidden and she wouldn't be able to tell who was truly people she trusted. So many people were out to hurt her, including people hired by her parents and the mafia people following Ryan. Damien had promised her he'd watch out for her all evening and even said he would have extra cops from his precinct. Having that extra protection always made her comfortable. To have them watching out for her on top of having the normal security guards made Sam feel a lot better about the whole ordeal.
Damien had spent the day with her at her cottage and hung out with her as they both got ready for the ball this evening. They discussed life, what plans each of them had for the future, and even good food they may have eaten in the past couple of days. Damien was like a big brother to Sam; they could talk about anything and everything and she always knew he'd be there to protect her in the end. He was the only one who knew what her parents could do and he was one of two people she trusted with her life.
As Damien and Sam entered the ball through a back door, Sam's hair gently brushed her shoulders. Her hair was sleek and straight to hide her identity even more, since she was usually seen with very curly hair. Her dress was made of a flowy red material that gently blew in the breeze as she walked. The one-shoulder dress made her feel like a goddess and she only hoped Ryan would approve of her outfit once she finally met him at the ball. She had previously shown him her mask, which was red and white with gold lining and music notes covering the white portion; if he knew what mask she was wearing, he'd know that it was actually her under the mask in the room filled with tons of other girls trying to look just as good for their significant others.
She held onto Damien's arm tightly, walking with him into the room filled with people and trying to enter as unnoticed as possible. She looked over to Damien and leaned towards his ear, whispering, "Thank you for protecting me tonight, Damien. You always manage to make me feel safe and you have no idea how much I appreciate that." She gave him a small hug after she finished speaking. Sam would not reveal her identity to the party this evening, to prevent any pictures from surfacing of her and Ryan if they were seen together at the event. She looked around the room already filled with people and tried to identify the familiar hair of the man she loved.
