SHE COULD BE A JOAN OF ARC There were good days, and there were bad days.
This was one of those days that seemed to fall somewhere in between. Morgan woke up tiredly, instead of getting out of bed with her usual zest for life. She hadn’t been drinking the night before, so she couldn’t push the feeling off on a hangover as she so wanted to do. No, this had to be the cancer. Instead of getting out of bed immediately, she laid there, tossing and turning, wanting desperately just to fall asleep and waste the day away in bed. But the pain in her abdomen had other plans, and she rose from bed about an hour later, trying not to trip on Buggs, her giant fugitive of a pet, as she fumbled her way into the bathroom. Morgan splashed a little cold water on her face before deciding just to take a shower, hoping the hot water would work its magic. She stood under a stream of water so hot that it turned her skin red, raising little welts that Morgan ran her fingers over.
Getting dressed and towel drying her hair, Morgan yawned and wondered what she was going to do for the day. Ryder was unavailable, hanging out with his new model girlfriend. She was happy for him, she really really was, although Morgan wished that he would introduce the two of them. Sure they were exes, but they were also best friends. It was pretty unconventional, but neither of them were the most conventional people anyway. So it made sense. For them, anyway. She thought about finding out where he was and crashing their little party, but he would be too mad at her for something like that. She watched lazily as Buggs meandered around the apartment. Who even knew that rabbits could be so big? It was like a miracle or something.
Grabbing an apple and filling up and old Starbucks cup with a whiskey sour (see, in Morgan’s eyes, it was never too early to start drinking) she headed out of her apartment and caught a cab. Might as well drop in James, see if he was too busy for her as well. Plus… well. Morgan had kind of been thinking of telling him about her cancer. She hadn’t fully decided yet, but it didn’t seem like such a terrible idea. Maybe someone should know, just in case. Just in case of what, exactly, she wasn’t sure. Morgan had a lot of friends, but she just didn’t have a lot of them that she could trust with anything. And she could trust Ryder with anything, but he wasn’t someone that she wanted to tell at all. James seemed like a pretty good candidate.
She made it to James (giant) place and paid the cabby. Morgan stood on the sidewalk for a moment, taking a bit of her apple and a swig of her drink before she headed up and rang his doorbell. Hopefully he would be there, maybe she should have called first. Morgan wasn’t big on plans, she usually just floated around wherever the wind blew her. Normally it worked out for her, she never got herself in too much trouble. You know, aside from the fact that she was in debt up to her eyeballs. But that was really no matter.

James had been up late the previous night drinking and entertaining a few guests. Ever since realizing crime paid better than any other legitimate job he could have gone into, he'd taken it upon himself to indulge a bit when it was practical to do so. Dinner parties, pool parties, driving around town with his limo full of beautiful women and club hopping was a way of life for him when family business wasn't pressing. The night before was unique in that it was a compilation of everything he enjoyed in one evening with them starting out swimming then moving inside to eat dinner before setting off for a night on the town bouncing around clubs. By the end of the evening, he'd taken three of the most beautiful girls to his bedroom where they spent the remainder of the evening engaging in a massive cardiovascular workout that would have made any pornstar on the circuit cry with tears of amazement.
He'd slept in while two of the girls woke and made their leave knowing it was best to not be there when he woke due to his reputation for literally forcing women out of the house when dawn broke. As for the last girl, she overslept but took it upon herself to use James' shower in his master bedroom after waking and was just coming out of the shower, dressed only in her underwear, picking up her dress and shoes from the floor while her host stirred from his sleep. The man simply gave her a quick glance then stood and made his way to the shower as well to clean himself up rather than look like he'd been partying all night and sleeping with random hotties.
Once he came from the shower, dressed only in his velvet/silk robe and matching slippers which he'd thrown on prior to thinking of what to wear for that given day, he realized the last girl was long gone much to his pleasure of not having to tell her off as he had a bit of a headache and wasn't in the mood for such things. Just as the young man made his way downstairs to fill a mug with coffee, the doorbell stirred his attention and he immediately assumed it was one of the girls from the previous night that had forgotten something behind in their haste. The bottom line was, that if they forgot something, it now belonged to him regardless of what it was and they'd have to come back later.
The gangster made no effort to hurry to the door and went about filling his coffee cup with the hot coffee his butler had prepared for him and took a sip before groggily making his way toward the large, oak double front doors. Moving in a fluid motion, he unlocked the door and pulled one side open in surprise to see Morgan standing before him rather than a girl from the night before; however, given their past, he'd not have minded for her to have been one of the girls from the night before. To the best of his memory, she was one of the wildest girls he'd had the pleasure of being with but then again, he'd been with quite a few and remembering specifics was difficult from time to time. Nevertheless, his expression softened a bit from one of frustration to one of welcome.
"Good morning, Morgan," he greeted the young woman offering a soft smile, "I don't mean to sound rude, but what exactly brings you by this early?"
