henry had went to his appointment earlier this month with hadley. prior to this appointment he started to cough up more and more blood. he also had lost nearly 15lbs in one month, which definitely wasn't healthy. he kept these last few things from hadley and exaggerated the fact he was getting better. at the appointment when they looked at his white blood cell count it looked pretty grim. he was slowly losing to this disease. when he returned to the room with hadley he had told her he was getting better. his mother looked at him concerned and she had been told by the doctor that henry was in the end of stage three. he hadn't realize how much his body was giving up. he had checked into the hospital about a week ago and hadley knew about it.. she just thought he was doing another chemo purge. she was wrong. henry had turned down the extra chemo sessions, he was only going for chemo once a week and taking extra pills. his body was exhausted from fighting. he was ready to let go, he had only been taking the pills and chemo sessions so he could have enough time to tell hadley the way he actually felt.
henry's doctor asked him to shave his head but since he was giving up the fight, he saw no point in doing so. as he waited for hadley, he was hooked up to a couple machines and IVs were stuck in his arms. his mother by his side and holding his hand, she had known all these years about his feelings for hadley and now he was actually going to tell her. then they could spend a few weeks together until the disease finally took over his body. if hadley felt the same way for henry and wanted him to fight for her then he would. if she didn't feel the same then henry would see no point in continuing his fight. as he head the familiar clicks of hadley's combat boots down the hall. his mother excused herself and left henry at the bed. when hadley entered he figured she'd be shocked at how pale he was. "hadley." he breathed out her name, "it's so good to see you." he said as she walked slowly up to him. "have.. a--" he coughed, "a-a seat please." henry said looking at her and smiling weakly.

hadley had gone to henry's appointment with him earlier this month, and he had told her that he was getting better. it wasn't like henry to lie to her, but hadley could tell that he wasn't feeling well at all, and if anything he was getting worse than he was before. it was killing hadley inside to see her best friend this way. she had found herself awake at most nights crying, not being able to sleep. all she wanted was for henry to get better. she cursed and cried and it had become her life. it was even worse when she realized that she was falling in love with henry. she never realized the feelings until now, when she was so scared of losing him, and wanting him to stay by her side forever. having those feelings for him was making everything harder. she didn't want to tell him and ruin the friendship that they built, but there was a part of her that wanted to tell him, because time may be limited with him, and she wanted him to know if his life did come to an end.
going through the school day was tough for hadley, especially when her best friend was sitting in a hospital bed, struggling for his life. she knew he wasn't getting better, she could read it in his eyes and the way he acted. it was a friday afternoon and she had just gotten out of the school for the week, which was a reliever. with everything going on she had spent all her time worrying and crying, and spent no time on her school work. her grades were slipping, and at this point the young girl didn't even care. instead of doing work she also had spent a lot of time writing, mostly about henry. she had gotten to the hospital as soon as she could, taking a bus into town, as she didn't have a car of her own. once she got to the hospital she carried her bag and headed towards henry's room, hoping to see him feeling better. she walked into his room smiling, knowing that a smile always made henry feel better emotionally, if not physically. he was really pale and it made a frown form onto her face. "are you feeling any better?" she asked, taking a deep breath in. she sat down next to his bed and took his hand in hers. "i've missed you," she said softly, before looking at him. it seemed like there was something he wanted to talk about.

henry hadn't seen hadley for what seemed like years but was only a mere week. he had his mom call the school to tell them about henry's condition. they had sent a card and a few other goodies that he could barely stomach. henry had his mom bring his guitar so he could sing and play a little bit but his body ached all over. he missed music so much already and he didn't know how much longer he could go without playing his guitar. the hospital was so quiet and miserable, if only he could play a couple chords to lighten up the place. he stared at his phone screen, just waiting for it to light up with another text from hadley. he had been waiting all week for her to come down and see him. he felt even better knowing that she was on his way to the hospital, he hoped he would perk right back up for her. henry was really going to do this... he really was going to tell hadley he was in love with her after all these years. henry truly did love hadley and the only thing standing in his way was his health.
henry looked at his mom and smiled, she gave him a smile back and smoothed out his hair. he looked across the room and only saw a white wall staring back at him. the doctor had just checked in with him already today so him and hadley had all the time in the world to talk. his body was holding up.. for now. he heard the familiar clicks of hadley's combat boots hitting the tiled floor. his mother kissed his forehead before leaving the room. henry waited for his bestfriend to enter, a bit anxious to see what she would say. she gracefully entered the room and made henry's heart skip a beat, she was so breathtakingly gorgeous and she didn't even know it. she crossed the room and sat on the bed, taking his hand in hers. "i feel much better now." henry said looking down at their hands and squeezing hers. he did feel a lot better whenever she was around, her presence made him feel warm and fuzzy inside. "i've missed you too hadley." henry looked into her eyes and blushed softly. he didn't want to outright say he loved her, he had to build up to it. this wasn't what he imagined when he finally admitted his feelings.. he didn't think he'd be in a hospital bed at all or looking so god-awful. henry looked back up to hadley, "hadley, please forgive me, i haven't been honest with you." henry said caressing her hand, "i didn't tell you the other day because i didn't want to worry you.. it's progressed to stage three.. i have stopped treatment even though i've still got a fighting chance, i don't want to burden anyone anymore.. it's best if i just let go." henry said his eyes filling up with tears and they were now spilling over. he removed his hand from hadley's and put them over his eyes to hide his shame, "i-i-i'm an awful p-p-person." he said softly between sobs. he felt horrible about his decision but he couldn't imagine the pain he was putting everyone through... it was just better if he let go.

there seemed to be people at school who all of a sudden cared about henry. people who didn't even know he existed before were asking hadley how he was doing. it was nice, but it made hadley upset to see that people only cared when henry was sick, and could be on his way to heaven. hadley had smiled and told people that he was doing better when in reality she wasn't sure how he was doing. she called him every night and talked to him for more than a hour, especially when she couldn't go and visit him that day. but he always said he was doing better, but every day he sounded worse and more tired. it was breaking hadley apart into pieces. her teachers could tell that she was upset everyday, and some were very sympathetic and sent their best wishes to hadley. but others were getting on her case and telling her that she needed to get her grades back up, or they were going to write her up to the school. she didn't understand how a teacher could be like that, especially when the student was going through a pretty rough time.
when hadley walked in she gave a small smile to his mom, who was like family to her now. she was the mom that she didn't have anymore. when she was facing a problem, she went to her and talked it out with her. she smiled at henry, trying to be strong for both of them. hadley could see the pain in his eyes. and it was killing her to see him like this. "i am glad i am here," she said. "not being able to see you for a week was probably the hardest thing i have done. i didn't even feel this much pain when my parents disowned me," the words came out softly. hadley looked down at his face, she wanted him to be happy and healthy again. back when they had first met each other and would race to the music room to play music together. she was missing those days. and she would do anything to have them back. she listened to the words coming out of his mouth before tears began to pour out of her eyes. "w-why didn't you tell me? they have to be wrong, no it can't be that bad," she could barely get the words out of her mouth, and she was in a complete state of denial. "p-please don't l-let go. just try, f-for me. henry i need you, please d-do your best," she couldn't see straight because of the amount of tears that were falling from her eyes, and she couldn't comprehend anything. she needed him better. it wasn't possible to live without him.

henry had never been a really depressed kid, he was always alone and people assumed he was always lonely. they were wrong. henry loved being alone and just playing his guitar quietly. he was perfectly content with growing alone with 72 cats aswell. he never thought he would have the courage to talk to anyone.. let alone a girl. then the most magical day came when he met hadley. that day changed his life forever. he no longer liked being alone because he always craved to be near hadley. people mocked her smile and always ridiculed her. henry had always thought of hadley's smile as the most angelic sight he had ever seen. her smile lit his world up with light and made getting out of bed not so bad --even when it was hard sometime's. the amount of times he had to thank god for blessing him with an angel like hadley had to be close to infinity by now. he had also forgiven god for giving him this disease.. at least he got to know hadley.. at least he got to feel true love.
henry saw his mother and hadley exchange small smiles. his mother would return in five hours or so.. just before visiting hours were over. in henry's case, since he was so young, he was allowed to let one person stay in the room with him overnight so he didn't get lonely. most times he preferred to be alone but his mother would end up staying if she didn't have work. "this has been the hardest week for me too hadley." henry said softly smiling, "you think your pain was hard? i had to sit here for hours with nothing to entertain me.. at least you had school to keep your mind occupied. i just sat here thinking about you the whole day.. just waiting until today came just so i could see you." henry said starting to adjust his bed so he could sit up and face hadley. when henry admitted the truth he just started to cry, he wasn't afraid of death up until looking smack on hadley's face. he shouldn't be angry with god for taking him so soon.. if only there wasn't one person standing in his way of accepting his fate. she was sitting right infront of him, he couldn't just leave her in this world alone. "h-h-hadley, i couldn't t-tell you. i-i could barely accept the truth myself.. i just wanted you to be happy and lying to you ensured you would be.. i'm not lying hadley, they said i've got six months tops if i don't start chemo tomorrow." henry's tears were now streaming down his face. as hadley begged him to try for her.. he couldn't help but feel a bit of guilt, he was causing her so much pain. he wiped off his tears and looked at hadley, "h-hadley don't cry, please don't cry." henry said leaning forward and embracing her tightly, "i need you too." henry said softly into her ear, "i-i can't keep fighting knowing how much pain i'm causing you seeing me this way.. maybe it's best if i disappear.." henry trailed off, he pulled away from hadley and looked deep into her eyes. henry wiped away more tears from her eyes, "i can't bear to see you cry anymore!" henry said starting to let his tears stream again, "please.. don't cry. i'm not worth your tears, i-i wish i could just tell you so much but i can't.." henry looked down before leaning in and kissing hadley's forehead. he wished he could just tell her outright he loved her.. but it wasn't as easy as it seemed.

hadley loved being around people, but she loved being alone all at the same time. it was a whirlwind with her. sometimes she wanted to be around people, laughing and having a splendid time, and other times she just wanted to be alone in her room writing music. but when it came to henry, she always wanted to be around him. there was never a time when she would turn down being around him. whenever she was down, or just wanted to be around someone, she would go to him. there were times she ran to him crying and he had always been there as a shoulder for her. honestly she had no idea what she would do without him. life without his smile was impossible for hadley.
"i wish i didn't have to go to school this week. really, all i wanted to do was be here with you. you're the only thing i can think about, henry. it is impossible for me to focus on anything else," she said. school didn't mean anything to her right now. she could fail senior year and not care. all she wanted was for her best friend to be better. school could come later. "thinking about me? what about me?" she asked curiously. if had been sitting there thinking about her the whole week, she definitely wanted to know what was going on in his mind. hadley was trying to blink back all of the tears in her eyes, but she couldn't help it. they were falling, and there was no way to stop them. all of her emotions were taking over. "pl-please do ch-emo. if y-you can. i n-eed you h-here as long as i-i can g-get," she said. if it didn't make him live forever, she wanted him around for as long as she could. "f-fight. f-for me. f-fight for me," she said. it was probably so hard for him, but hadley just could not see lie without him. and letting him go would be the hardest thing of her life. he kissed her forehead and she looked up at him, wiping some tears from his eyes. "you mean the world to me," she said, biting her lip gently.
note: it doesn't match yours at all, i'm so sorry. D:

getting through highschool was henry's main wish this year. he hadn't even seen all of the world and his world was being ripped apart by the seams. henry never imagined his life being one filled with events but now that his life was ending he saw how much he wished for more fun times. if he hadn't met hadley, he wouldn't have experienced love or friendship. henry could leave this world knowing he had met his soulmate.. some didn't even meet their soulmates before they die. he was lucky enough to have met his so young.
"i'm so sorry that i left you alone hadley, you were all i was thinking about too. if only i could've went to school... the doctors won't even let me leave the room alone." henry looked at her with soft eyes and a warm smile. he had been thinking about hadley nonstop, he always wondered what she was doing, what she was thinking, who she was talking to, basically everything. he wanted to know everything about her, be with her all the time, and just know they could have a future together. "thinking about how much i missed the little things about you, all the cute little things about you. like how you cock your head to the side when you're confused or how you smile to the ground when you're embarrassed." henry said blushing. the emotions were overwhelming in this room and he couldn't help but feel the guilt build in the bottom of his stomach. he watched as hadley's face change from happy to sad in an instant as he told her the shocking news. henry clung to hadley's tiny frame as she sobbed quietly and spoke words in small splutters. he looked down and started to cry silently, "i'll s-s-start t-today, i-i promise hadley." he said a little shaky, he wanted to stay strong.. for both of them. he kissed her forehead softly and held her tight, when she said he meant the world to him his heart sank. he had to fight. he couldn't give up on hadley, she was his everything. he pulled away from hadley, "i-i-i have to tell you something." he said wiping away a couple of tears. he put his hands on her cheeks lightly as he leaned in and kissed her for a couple seconds before pulling away. "i-i'm sorry.. i-i don't know what made me d--" he stopped before starting again, "i love you hadley welch, i've loved you since the moment i saw you. i-i had to tell you and show you." henry said softly looking deep into her eyes and waiting for what seemed like hours for an answer.

hadley was just wishing she could take the pain away from henry and give it to herself. seeing him suffering like this was killing her. there was so much he needed to see, he didn't deserve to be hurting, especially this young. it made hadley wonder why bad things happened to good people. henry was the most amazing guy she had ever met, and she knew that all he wanted was good to happen. there wasn't a mean or bad bone in his entire body. hadley would take all the pain away if she could, anything to make him feel better. she wished that he wasn't the one suffering.
"don't apologize for that! it's nothing you could do. you need to get better, don't worry about school. i will do the best i can to teach you everything we are learning in school. if you are up for it. i don't want to push anything," she said. she knew it was going to be tough graduating especially in his circumstances, but she was going to try and help him. once he was better she would help him pass all of his exams so they could close the high school chapter of their lives. her head perked up when he called the things she did cute. she kept listening to the words he was speaking, and she was melting inside with every word. he was so sweet. "you know all of my little habits," her face was blushing and she bit her lip and looked down at the ground. whenever she blushed she automatically looked down; another one of her habits. she looked back up at him, tears still staining her cheeks. "you will? you'll fight for me?" hadley was going to be there for him the whole time. she was going to make sure that she was there for him every second he needed her. the summer was coming soon, and she would spend all of her time with him. nothing was going to change that. she loved him, and she would be there. it was a promise. "you can tell m-me anyt-thing," her heart was falling through her chest. she was nervous to hear what he had to say. but before he could say anything his lips were on hers, and she was shocked, but overwhelmed with happiness at the same. she kissed him back gently before he pulled away. he must feel the same way as she did about him. hadley looked him in the eyes as he spoke. "i love you too, henry miles abrams. i've been developing these feelings and i was too scared to tell you... but now i don't have to be scared."

henry really wanted to graduate right next to hadley and the way things were looking.. he wouldn't make it. he had people delivering him homework to complete but he was far too weak to do any of it. his senior year was supposed to be packed fill with fun and with hadley. all henry ever wanted was for hadley to be happy.. she really wanted to graduate and by her skipping some school days to come visit him at the hospital was no good. if he hadn't progressed to stage three he might have been able to watch hadley cross the stage to receive her diploma. that would make him extremely happy to see his one true love happy and free from school forever.
"you'd be the best teacher i've had in years then." henry laughed lightly, coughing a couple times into his sleeve. he tasted the iron taste of blood in his mouth, he swallowed quick but the taste lingered in his mouth. as henry mentioned all her cute little quirks she blushed away from his gaze. she bit her lip and looked to the ground, boy, did henry love when she bit her lip. he smiled to himself and thought about how beautiful she was. as she looked back at him, tears in her eyes, henry felt a pang in his chest. his heart felt like it was going to cave in from sadness. he hated seeing her cry and him being the cause made it worse. "of course i'll fight for you hadley, i'll start tonight." henry said assuring her. he had every intention of being stubborn with his decision to let go but hadley had somehow convinced him. as soon as he started to speak, his heart was racing a million beats per second. he felt lightheaded.. after four years he was finally going to tell her. her soft sentence came just seconds before he planted a soft kiss on her lips. she seemed a bit hesitant at first but she kissed back gently. she looked in his eyes as he spoke the words that could change his entire world. it felt like days before she responded, he listened to her, his eyes growing as she said she was felt the same way. "oh hadley." he muttered, small tears of happiness rolling down his cheeks. henry pulled her into a tight embrace, "don't be scared.. we can figure this out... together." henry said softly before pulling away from the hug. "i-i can't believe it took me four years to say that... i'm sorry i kept you waiting." he reached forward, his hand a little hesitant, cupping her cheek with his warm hand. "you're so beautiful." henry said moving in and kissing her once more. the kisses were exactly what he imagined, they made his heart flutter and his head light.

hadley really wanted henry to graduate with her, but it just wasn't going to happen. with all he was going through she knew that he wouldn't be graduating next to her, no matter how bad she wanted it to happen. if hadley could she would do all of his homework so that he could graduate beside her but so many teachers knew their work, and they'd probably catch on that he wasn't the one doing all of the work. school was the least important of her worries, though. the most important priority in her life was henry.
"i don't know about that! i can teach some things in music, but i doubt i could teach you principles of physics. i can barely understand it myself, let alone teach you it," she giggled. hadley could barely solve simple math problems. anything that had to do with science or math was nearly impossible for her to comprehend. at least she was good with music, or she felt like there was nothing that she would ever be good at. hadley had a thing with words. putting words together beautifully was one of her specialties. and she hoped she never lost her touch with words. "thank you so much," she said taking his hand gently, feeling the warmth from both of their bodies combine into one. she gently kissed his hand before looking back up at his face. everything she had ever felt for him was finally out for henry to know. but now she knew that they had a future together, because she refused to believe that the end of his life was soon. he would fight, and he would overcome the monster that was named cancer. "i never thought you would feel the same way back. i just couldn't let it out, knowing you might not feel the same way. it's terrifying admitting feelings to someone." hadley had never told someone how she felt before, like she was doing now. her head shook from side to side, as hadley said, " i could have told you how i felt as well, but i didn't. don't worry about taking a long time, dear." a blush formed on her pale cheeks as he called her beautiful. the affect he had on her was so different from anything she ever felt with someone else. she tried hiding her crimson cheeks by hiding her face in her shoulder, but before she could, henry was kissing her again. closing her eyes, she kissed him back. butterflies were swarming in her stomach and the feelings she was feeling was amazing. she could definitely live with this.

henry was a nerd in school, all those years he spent alone he had studied every night. he was really good at many of the subjects in school besides gym. he had nearly failed every single time if he didn't play the pity card. ever since being diagnosed, his teachers had given him him special treatment. he was sure this senior year he wasn't going to graduate with his dwindling health. without a clean slate of health, what else is good about life? he couldn't enjoy anything in life without thinking about his outcome and if this would effect his health.
henry coughed several times before answering hadley, "hey, i can always take advanced physics online. mr.lichen likes me for the most part so i'm sure i can pass that one. i just need my mom to bring down my laptop so i can work on stuff while i'm bound to his darn bed for the next couple of months." henry smiled, he always looked on the bright side for hadley. he never wanted to give her bad news because she shouldn't have to stress about anything she didn't need to stress about. hadley shouldn't be stressing about his health anyways, the only class he had to worry about was english. he just needed to write the exam and he could pass and graduate. but, with the way he was feeling he wasn't sure if he could make it to the school.. even just for a couple of hours. as hadley thanked him and kissed his hand before looking back up to his face. if henry could make it past his leukemia, he could have a future with hadley, which was what he had always wanted. "i know exactly you feel. i was always scared to ruin our friendship.. but, since i was starting to accept my death.. i just needed you to know how much i love you before i made any drastic decisions about my future." henry said looking down ashamed, just fifteen short minutes ago, he was ready to give up the fight. now he had a reason to fight right back, he just wanted to come out stronger than this cancer. "it's okay, i wanted to be the first one to tell you anyways." henry said smiling bigger than ever. he leaned in and kissed her and she kissed him right back. he could imagine their future filled with happiness, music, and a lot of laughter. he pulled away from her and held onto her hand tight just as the doctor came in, "have we come to a decision regarding the chemo henry?" he asked. "yes, i will be going for the session. will you stay with me through the chemo hadley?" he asked, hopeful she would. she was there for the first session and he had puked up a storm.. she stayed there, holding onto the bucket and rubbing his back. he had cried so much because of the pain his body was going through.. he needed hadley's strength to help him get through this session. the doctor looked at him and nodded, "you know where the chemo room is, but, first we need to shave your head.. so come whenever you're done." the doctor walked towards the bed and set down the razor. henry stared at the razor and looked at hadley.. the doctor was gone now, "hadley, care to do the honours?" he asked picking up the electric razor and placing it in her hand, "i trust you."
