the personality patrick kensington has a classic disgruntled former cop attitude and is one to get absorbed in his work as a private eye. He's got a ruggedness about him that flows like water when he's talking to people of interest in that he tends to be direct, sarcastic and can be physical. If it comes to a fight, he can more than handle himself against the usual customers but has gotten himself kicked out of bars for excessive drinking and flirting with the wrong guy's girl. He makes no reservations about his lifestyle and aside from chain-smoking cigarettes and drinking scotch like he's a fish drinking water, he spends a lot of his time in local nightclubs trying to hit on women, strip clubs or being picked up by the boys he used to work with and having his old partner sneak him out. the history Born and raised in a small town in Virginia, Patrick had an average childhood; as average as small town life could be for a young boy anyway. His family was never rich but not poor with his father managing to turn a decent living as a truck driver and his mother as a clerk at the local wal-mart. He attended church, school and was even a boy scout for most of his life but never fully-applied himself to any of his activities. Patrick would rather sneak out of class to spend time at the park with a couple friends than to do classwork and would just as soon stay at a friend's house to avoid going to church or boy scouts. It wasn't until he was sixteen that he buckled down in school and started making decent grades that would help him graduate early and an ROTC scholarship through the Marines landed him at the University of Ohio. It was in college that he defined himself through physical training and academics. Majoring in criminal justice, he planned to be in the military police upon graduation but not being able to achieve the proper GPA toward the second and last year of college prevented him from being eligible for OCS and so he was sent to regular Boot Camp with an increased rank. Once through Boot, he was sent overseas to the war and spent more time in the big sandbox than any other man in his unit but he gained recognition and, coupled with his ROTC record, was granted a promotion to Sergeant after already coming in as an NCO. War made it desperate times and the military took what qualified men they could, but when everyone started to come home, Kensington was among the first having spent four years overseas and soon left the military and took an opening in the LAPD. After the academy, he walked a beat for a year in a uniform before being moved to homicide following his help in closing a murder case and his pristine military record. That's when things started falling apart. Every cop has that one case that they can never solve that keeps them awake at night, ruins their marriage, and puts them in AA. Just over a year as a detective, that case landed on Patrick's desk. He and his partner spent weeks trying to track down a killer known as The Cannibal whose methods of killing were given by his name. The stress was only quenched in a bottle of scotch and the young man had been smoking since the war; it was no surprise when, after arresting the wrong man and being betrayed by his crooked partner after a payoff, the LAPD terminated Kensington. It was all over the newspaper how the war hero had turned into LA's finest fuck up by arresting the son of a senator - despite all the evidence pointing to the suspect as the killer (which he was) but the police were paid to keep it quiet and the news followed suit effectively putting a blacklist on Patrick. After a few weeks, he turned to his experience to open a small private eye practice in a tiny office space just out of downtown. His days of rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous were over and he'd turned to his vices to keep him sane though is still a hero and a cop deep down inside that will never die. All he needs now is the case that can put him back to where he used to be. the rper » alias: pat. » years roleplaying: 8 » other char on the site: garrald vickers, james morrissey (will be dropping james, though). » where did you find us? already here. » the keyword: i'll be your hero [/style] |
