On the surface, Alexis is a very independent and strong willed woman. You could say that she was rebellious and stubborn if you wanted to look at it that way. She doesn’t like to accept help from anyone, regardless of why or how. Acceptance of any assistance meant that she is desperately out of options and most likely scared by that point. Depending on the nature of the situation, she may choose to ignore that you ever helped her, that nothing took place at all and it would be wise for you to forget it. Very few occasions she has felt the need to “pay back” the debt, these were usually simple things like money loans that are easy enough that she didn't mind squaring it off.
She hates to be stuck in her condo since it only makes her feel more alone with the secrets she lives with, so instead she as picked up many little hobbies and activities to keep her out the apartment and entertained. Winter means snowboarding and ice skating while summer allows swimming, biking, hiking and the like. Anything that keeps her outside and active, especially in the winter with her love of snow and the cold. The only weather that gets her down is storms, the big ones with thunder and lighting. They don’t scare her but it’s the one thing that will keep her in her apartment with a book or movie for the night.
She has been known to relent in some cases to those with stronger will, or greater knowledge. Being just plain dominant is not reason enough for Alexis to submit in any way. There has to be a reason or some sort of connection/relationship. To her, it is a kind of trust in order to give up any portion of independence to anyone regardless of the manner. Likewise, she does have a difficult time in relationships, especially after the events with her ex-boyfriend Nate. She is more willing to adjust for someone that she likes than just a friend but it is not impossible.
``history:
Life around Alexis Rivers was pretty normal through grade school. Never got a detention, never missed an assignment, only fought with her siblings and not to mention that she did everything that her parents asked her too. She was an angel… until high school. During her first year, her little brother drowned in a pond at his eleventh birthday party. It was a little shove for a laugh that went terribly wrong when his leg got trapped in some water plants. She was the first to dive in to attempt to pull him free, the same weed snaring her and nearly taking her life as well except that her dad was in time. Needless to say, the experience left her emotionally scarred and permanently terrified of any water that wasn’t the shower or in a glass, even using a sink took some courage. After the accident Alexis made friends with the wrong crowd to cover the grief, she learned classes weren’t fun but weed was, homework wasn’t important but alcohol was and best of all teachers were boring and sex wasn’t. She had a Goth phase, then emo, then just plain rebellious punk complete with a tattooed, green Mohawk-ed boyfriend. They dated a year until Alexis barely graduated high school, after which they moved in together.
Another year passed in which she took to stripping in order to help cover rent and food. The love of her life, the same tattooed punk from high school, Nate worked as the bartender at her club. Between the two of them, they made ends meet… most of the time. They were a typical young couple, fought sometimes, Nate would storm off, come back, beg for forgiveness and have make up sex. Normal couple right. Until one time in early December that Nate stormed off and didn’t come back. He missed work and refused to answer his phone. A week after his disappearance, Alexis came home from work and found a brief letter, next month’s rent and a full fridge of food. The letter had little more than his new job, no address, no number, not much of an explanation. She knew he was saving up money to buy a nice engagement ring, it didn’t make sense for him to just run off. She did what any girlfriend would do, she went looking for him.
She found him leaving his new job at a new club the next town over a few nights later where his reaction was quite unexpected. He ran. Nate ran faster than she had ever seen him run, faster than she had seen any human run. Alexis followed him and eventually cornered him. He begged for her to leave, that they couldn’t be together anymore and she should leave before she got hurt. The words were barely out of her mouth when a black SUV screeched around the corner and slid to a stop next to them. A heavily tinted front window rolled down and a gun muzzle appeared before firing several shot into Nate, a stray one hitting her shoulder. As she landed on her knees with blood streaming down her arm, another black SUV appeared: a man and a woman jumping out before the vehicle even stopped. The man immediately pulled a gun and fired into first SUV before it peeled off, the woman rushed to her side and lifted Alexis in the back seat. As the man pulled into the driver’s seat, the strange woman told him to stop at the hospital to drop “the civi” off as it was the least they could do. On the way, the man explained that Nate got involved with the wrong gang and had a debt to pay.
After being treated and released from the hospital, Alexis returned to her apartment and coped with the loss of Nate. To make up for the lost income, she doubled her shifts at the club as a bartender, taking the position he left behind. She didn’t know that he was involved with a gang or had even borrowed any money. A week later, she received a simple typed card in the mail. Nate’s killers were dead. There was no name or means of contact so she quickly forgot it. Today, she acts like that night never happened, that she never saw the love of her life bleed out feet away from her… and the gunshot wound was a random drive-by stray.
Six months later, she appears to be doing very well for herself. She was the bar manager at busy nightclub, pulling enough shifts that she no longer needed to dance for strangers. The new job paid for a small house, a new vehicle and she even adopted a dog to keep her company and guard the property when she was gone to work.
